Every time you buy a new garment with buttons on it, before you wear or wash it, dap a few drops of clear nail polish over the threads of each of the buttons. Let it dry for a few minutes. This will reinforce the threads so the buttons stay on longer.

When the zipper is stiff and hard to work, rub some candle wax on the teeth of the zipper. It will make the zipper slide up and down more smoothly.

- Place candles in the refrigerator before burning. They will burn evenly and the wax will not drip. Besides, they will burn slower, hence lengthen their burning time.

- Do not freeze candles, Some candles may crack.

- Do not directly expose candles to sunlight. The colour on candles may fade away. If left for too long, the candles will bend.

- If the candle is burned right down and the wax is stuck in the candle holder, just place the holder in the freezer for a few hours, the wax should be easier to dig out.

Clay pots let air and moisture seep through their walls, plants in clay pots can 'breath' easier. However, it also means that the soil in clay pots will dries up faster, hence more frequent watering is needed. On the other hand, plastic pots hold moisture longer and they are lighter.

To clean and deodorize cutting boards, sprinkle and scrub them with salt and baking soda first before washing. Baking soda is also known as bicarbonate of soda.

To clean up a dropped egg, sprinkle salt over the mess and leave it for a while. The salt will harden the egg and make it easier to clean up the mess.

Use newspaper instead of cloth to clean stained mirrors. Dip the newspaper in vinegar and water mixture to clean mirror will make it shinny.

Showerhead tends to clog up over time due to mineral deposits. There is an easy and non-chemical way to get rid of the deposits. For hand-held showerhead, simply soak the showerhead into a bucket filled with white vinegar. For non-detachable showerhead, use a plastic bag or old shower cap, fill it with vinegar, place it over the showerhead, so that the showerhead is completely immersed in the vinegar and secure it with tape or rubber bands. Soak the showerhead overnight. When removing it from vinegar, rinse it and if there are still some stubborn spots, just brush them with old toothbrush. This method can also be used for cleaning faucet. However, this method only works for chrome-plated showerheads or faucets and should not be used for brass or gold-plated showerheads or faucets.
