No More Ice Cream Cone Mess PDF Print E-mail

Every time your kid is having ice cream from a cone, you have to constantly wipe away the drips from the bottom of the cone, or else he/she will make a mess on him/herself and also on the floor. Sound familiar? Well, next time when you are making an ice cream cone at home, remember to stuff a marshmallow into the bottom of the cone before adding ice cream. It will keep the ice cream from dripping out from the bottom.

If you have a problem opening jars or bottles, try some of the following methods:

- Try using latex dishwashing gloves or rubber computer mouse pad as they give a non-slip grip to the jar lid or bottle cap, or 

- Tie some rubber bands around the lid or cap, then cover a cloth over it and turn, or

- Turn the jar or bottle horizontally, carefully run some warm water over the lid or cap. The heat of the water will expand the lid or cap.

An easy and faster way to peel garlic is to place the garlic clove on the chopping board, and whack or press it with the flat side of a board knife, break open the clove. Then cut away the woody end of the garlic clove. This skin will come out easily.

If you want the whole garlic clove intact, just soak the clove in cold water for a few minutes. The skin will slips off easily, leaving the whole clove intact.

Another tip is to spin the egg harder, as to make the egg spins faster. If the egg stands up, it is hard-boiled. Just be careful, don't spin the egg from table to floor, however, if it drops to the floor and breaks and spills, it is certainly raw!!

To remove layer of oil from soup, instead of scooping it out using spoon, a faster way is to add in a few pieces of lettuce leaves to the soup. The leaves will absorb the oil. Remove the leaves before serving.
